On December 12, 2017, the Construction Lien Amendment Act, 2017, which makes substantial changes to the Construction Lien Act, received Royal Assent.  The Construction Lien Act, which will be renamed the Construction Act, has been modernized  and  provides for promptness of payment at all levels of the construction pyramid and efficiency of dispute resolution on Projects.  The Construction Lien Amendment Act is not yet in force.  The Regulations have not been finalized.  There are two key dates when the amendments will come into force:
1.  Amendments with respect to Prompt Payment, Adjudication and Liens against Municipalities will come into force on October 1, 2019;
2.  All other amendments to modernize the Act and Holdback Rules will come into force on July 1, 2018
