Sistering
Sistering is a multi-service organization that offers practical and emotional support to women and trans people through programs which enable them to take greater control over their lives. They have been in the community for over 35 years.
The majority of women that come to Sistering’s 24/7 Drop-in Centre are without homes, living in hostels, shelters and Out of the Cold Programs, sleeping outside, and women who are poor and at risk of becoming homeless. They have fallen through the cracks in the traditional and social service systems. They are alone, and have no other supports in their lives. Chronic physical and mental health problems, experience with sexual violence, substance abuse, lack of skills, language and cultural barriers compound their marginalization.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we are able to change lives, one woman at a time.
PV Women’s Network Charity Contribution
Part Three of our Speaker Series would like to help bring summer into the hearts of our Sisters from Sistering. Your donation will be providing a social outing to help the women of Sistering develop new friendships while enjoying a marvelous adventure out.
Previous Outings:
“This spring Sistering entered into a partnership with Street to Trail – a non-profit organization that helps people living on the streets of Toronto rediscover their inner sense of worth using the healing power of the natural world. Street to Trail organizes hikes and other outdoor excursions that help homeless and marginalized people experience the beauty and therapeutic calmness of nature. Your gifts help to pay for transportation, picnic lunches and a wonderful guide from Street to Trail. “The experience of getting out of the city and getting into the great outdoors was so visibly meaningful for Sistering participants and staff alike! Recreation and enjoyment of the outdoors shouldn’t exclude anyone— it is vital for a healthy sense of self. There is always room for JOY.”
