Ahmed Bulbulia

Provides practical guidance to protect and enforce trademarks and copyright.

Ahmed Bulbulia has broad intellectual property (IP) experience in contentious and non-contentious matters representing a wide spectrum of clients.

These range from individuals, small and medium-sized businesses to multinationals, covering many industries including automotive, petroleum, nuclear, defence, telecommunications, food, hospitality, retail, apparel, toys and life sciences.

His extensive experience in IP litigation includes dealing with trademark infringement, passing off, trademark opposition proceedings, and copyright infringement. Ahmed seeks practical resolutions tailored to his client’s business objectives. Depending on the case, this may call for settlement on reasonable business terms or, if necessary, aggressively pursue legal proceedings.

He has appeared before the Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal, and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on motions, applications, trial, judicial reviews, and appeals. He also represents clients in dispute resolution conferences and mediations, and before the Trademarks Opposition Board.

Ahmed has experience in complex multi-jurisdictional IP matters and cross-border IP disputes. He coordinates with foreign IP counsel, often U.S. IP counsel, to protect his clients’ trademark and copyright interests in Canada and abroad.

In non-contentious IP matters, he assists Canadian and international clients to obtain trademark registrations in Canada and helps Canadian clients extend their trademark rights into the United States and throughout the world.

When clearing and filing trademark applications, Ahmed draws upon his trademark litigation experience to identify and minimize potential litigation risks. Clients appreciate his insight, experience and ability to clearly explain appropriate options and recommendations resulting in sound practical business solutions.

Ahmed also provides strategic IP advice relating to trademark clearances, brand protection, trademark portfolio management and trademark licensing and other IP-related commercial agreements.
