Restrictive covenants are important parts of employment contracts, whether on their own as a part of the overall employment contract.

Clauses such as confidentiality, non-solicitation, and intellectual property help to protect an employer even after the end of the employment relationship. Still, such clauses must be carefully drafted, and respect the common law rights of employees as well as employers, as the courts look at such restrictive clauses with a critical eye. .
